Biography:
Dr Shane Simpson is a Melbourne born and bred but graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) in 1996. Literally less than a week after finishing university he moved back to Melbourne to join Karingal Veterinary Hospital and has been here ever since!… yep that long! He is one of the practice owners and is the Hospital’s longest serving employee! Shane does not actually do much in the way of cat and dog vetting anymore but spends most of his time managing the hospital’s daily running such as keeping the Hospital’s IT systems running smoothly and overseeing cases with the other veterinarians where needed. When not at Karingal Veterinary Hospital he can be found just down the road where is also an owner of The Unusual Pet Vets. Shane has a keen interest in reptile and amphibian medicine and surgery and his one of the country’s leading experts in this field. He has been able to convert his childhood fascination with this unusual group of animals into his career. As such Shane is often speaking at conferences and events about reptile medicine and surgery to fellow veterinarians, veterinary nurses and reptile keepers. Not surprisingly, Shane’s bucket list involves reptiles with visiting Madagascar and the Galapagos Islands being at the top. In addition, he would like to see the Northern Lights. Shane’s is somewhat of a zoo with well over 40 different snakes, lizards, turtles and frogs taking up residence. Yes.. he has a very understanding partner!
When not being a veterinarian, Shane enjoys DIY and can often be found in his workshop tinkering on something.
