Position: Full Time Experienced Veterinary Nurse 21/06/2021

If you are an experienced, self-motivated, veterinary nurse enthusiastic about the industry and wanting to work in a practice with a large, supportive, and fun-loving team, then we are the place for you!

Does this sound like you…?

  • You have a confident grounding of nursing knowledge from at least 2 years working in a clinic.
  • You are looking to further develop your skills and knowledge with a large and varied caseload.
  • You would like to use your mad skills such as collecting blood, placing catheters and dental radiology but don’t often get the chance? Or do you want to develop these skills if you have never had the opportunity.
  • You want to contribute to a bigger team with more people to support you through the busy days (and more people to laugh with at the end of them).
  • You enjoy hard work and the rewards it brings.

At Karingal Vet Hospital, we cultivate a positive teamwork environment which promotes improved staff morale and clinic culture. We believe that employee wellbeing is critical, as well as encouraging personal development and learning.

The work

You will carry out a variety of both surgical nursing and consulting nursing. This work will include (but not be limited to): placing catheters, blood collection and bandaging; hospital admission and discharge; general anaesthetic patient monitoring and performing dental cleaning, including digital dental radiology; running in-house pathology. We also value team consulting where you will work closely with your veterinarian in the consult room as well as being heavily involved in client education especially with regards to preventative healthcare for puppies and kittens.

If you your personality loans itself to developing strong relationships with clients in a relaxed and comfortable way as well as getting on with your patients, then you will love the involvement and reward you get from team consulting.

As a practice we are continually evolving with technology becoming an increasingly important part of patient treatment and care. Those who embrace the use of new equipment and gadgets but respect their value are an important part of the evolving veterinary practice.

The hours

You would be working a 76-hour fortnight including every second Saturday. Your hours will include a mixture of day and afternoon shifts, with the clinic closing at 8pm on weeknights. We are closed on Sunday’s and public holidays (except Easter Saturday). There is no on-call however occasionally there may be the need to stay back to treat an emergency or hospitalised patient.

Does this sound like the practice for you? This is what our nurses have to say….

Maddie – Cert IV Veterinary Nurse (6.5 years in industry)

“I worked in a small practice for 4 years before applying at Karingal Vet. I was nervous about working in a much larger hospital, unsure about how I would cope with the busier workload and pace – and wondering whether my knowledge would be enough. These fears were quickly pushed aside as the entire team welcomed me with open arms, encouraging and supporting me to further my knowledge and challenge myself on a daily basis. Something I still find rewarding and enjoyable 2.5 years on as no two days are the same. If you are worried about moving from a smaller clinic, don’t be. Plus, the people are awesome!”

Ashlee – Veterinary Nurse, almost Cert IV (3 years in industry)

“After 14 months in my first nursing role, I took the leap to move to KVH  looking for more…
KVH is a much busier hospital than my first clinic, meaning the opportunity to be involved in many interesting surgical and hospital cases – I love to be challenged and am constantly rewarded with opportunities to grow and develop my skills. I am given responsibility and trust to perform advanced nursing skills furthering the fulfilment I get out of my work. Our team is incredibly supportive and no matter how hard the day, you are never alone. I love that we laugh as hard as we work.”

Samone – Cert IV Veterinary Nurse (23 years in industry)

“Most of my adult life has been spent working at Karingal Vet Hospital. I started when I was just 17 and new to nursing. I have had the opportunity to grow and develop my skills to become a qualified nurse. This then opened up many more opportunities and roles which have provided variety throughout my now 23 years here, including surgical nursing, kilo club coordinator, puppy school trainer, and consulting nurse, where I now enjoy training new staff in these roles. I have been apart of the KVH family for many years now and I have been fortunate now to be able to balance raising my own family with the enjoyment of coming to work.”

Sharni – Veterinary Nurse (17 years in industry)

“I have been working at KVH for 10 years, the hospital is filled with an amazing passionate team. A high standard of care given to all patients. No day is ever the same and our days are fast paced and fun! We have great medical and surgical equipment resources at our fingertips and a varied and exciting case load. Support is offered and encouraged with further education and support that is tailored to your individual veterinary nursing journey. Karingal vets is a buzzing hospital environment coupled with a nurturing team that is sure to further any nurses career and experience level.”
